 Osteoarthritis Treatment Study

Treatment of knee osteoarthritis with Lyprinol®, lipid extract of the green-lipped mussel – a double-blind placebo-controlled study

CS Lau, PKY Chiu, EMY Chu, IYW Cheng, WM Tang, RYK Man, GM Halpern Improvement in almost all of the arthritis assessment parameters was observed over six months. Lyprinol was safe and well tolerated with no serious side-effects reported. In conclusion, Lyprinol may be considered a safe option in the treatment of OA.

Treatment of asthma with lipid extract of New Zealand green-lipped mussel: a randomised clinical trial

 The Gibson Brief

The treatment of arthritis with a lipid extract of Perna canaliculus: a randomised trial

S.L.M. Gibson, R.G. Gibson This study concluded that the Lyprinol achieved faster responses in reducing pain, swelling and stiffness and in improving the functional index in rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

A.J. Sinclair, K.J.

Lyprinol: Anti-Inflammatory And Uterine-Relaxant Activities In Rats, With Special Reference To A Model For Dysmenorrhoea

I.A. Shiels, and M.W. Whitehouse Lyprinol® exhibits anti-inflammatory activity distinct from that of most NSAIDs, controlling chronic but not acute inflammation. Unlike Cox-1 inhibitors (asprin) it is not gastro-toxic.

Allergy and Immunology Study, Part III

Anti-Inflammatory Activity of a Lipid Fraction (Lyprinol®) From the NZ Green-Lipped Mussel

M.W. Whitehouse, T.A. Macrides, N. Kalafatis, W.H. Betts, D.R. Haynes, and J. Broadbent This study demonstated pronounced antinflammatory efficacy in trials with rats with artificially induced chronic polyarthritis resp. autoimmune arthritis.

 OTC Study

Over the counter (OTC) oral remedies for arthritis and rheumatism: how effective are they?

M.W. Whitehouse, M.S. Roberts, and P.M. Brooks Of 37 herbal formations, the mussel extract used in Lyprinol® was found to be among seven that were as effective as ibuprofen in the anti-arthritic assay.

 Hertz Study

The effect of a stabilised oil (Lyprinol®) from green lipped mussel (Perna canaliculus) on pain and Activities of Daily Life in patients with osteoarthritis in knee and/or hip.

Niels Hertz, M.D. Subjective pain experience with the treatment of Lyprinol capsules resulted in the reduction of pain by more than 50%, with no side effects. The pain relief was accompanied by a considerable improvement in functional ability.
